《IRON BEAR》
IRON BEAR bridges science fiction and local ecology, merging the iconic image of a technological hero with the native Formosan black bear. Sculpted in a circular relief and coated in a deep red reminiscent of Iron Man’s signature armor, the work evokes a subtle tension—hinting at the mounting pressure on nature and humanity’s yearning for redemption.
At its center, a raised palm features a distinct “V”-shaped mark, echoing the Formosan black bear’s unique white chest marking. This “V” also stands for Victory and Vitality, signifying that even endangered species still hold the potential for survival—if only humanity chooses to act in pursuit of coexistence.
The figure itself blurs the line between metal and muscle, fusing Iron Man’s sleek armor with the rugged form of a bear. This hybrid guardian is neither purely mechanical nor entirely beast—rather, it embodies a synthesis of ecological and cultural consciousness. Beyond its visual impact, the sculpture poses a question: As the superhero archetype is replicated globally, can we craft a narrative of salvation rooted in our own land?
The choice of wood as the medium is deliberate—an environmentally conscious gesture. Wood is not merely a material, but a continuation of organic life. Through visible chisel marks and the preserved flow of natural grain, the piece resists the cold, mass-produced aesthetics of modern technology.
IRON BEAR is both an imaginative sculpture and a fable. In a world saturated with global pop culture, this fusion figure invites us to reflect on where true power lies—not in advanced weaponry, but in reverence for nature and a commitment to protecting the land we belong to.
