The Key That Opens the Heart

In Chinese culture, the deer has long held a unique place—not only for its graceful appearance and gentle temperament, but also for its symbolic meaning. Artist RAN HILL has reimagined this beloved creature with a new interpretation: the Light Deer evokes a sense of hope. No matter how difficult life may become, gazing upon the Light Deer awakens a strength that rises from deep within the soul.
Interestingly, I first encountered the Light Deer on RAN HILL’s social media page. The moment I saw it, I was deeply moved. I immediately shared it on my own profile, and even saved several images to my phone so I could revisit them again and again.
In different paintings, the Light Deer shifts in scale and perspective—sometimes large, sometimes small; near or distant; changing postures in infinite ways. Yet one element remains constant: the light. Whether set in the mysterious depths of the cosmos or amid the poetic trickle of a forest stream, the Light Deer represents the hope within each of us. A beam of light, a healing light, an artistic light.
Whatever name we give the Light Deer, it serves as a balm for the fractured spirit of our times. It carries both a sense of healing and the beauty bestowed by the artist. Especially in this chaotic and uncertain era, we must not forget to seek out the “light” within our lives. I remember visiting the Light Deer exhibition in Taichung, where RAN HILL personally guided me through the show. Each painting represented a different chapter of his life experience—and, miraculously, within each of those paintings, I found reflections of my own journey.
RAN HILL is a man of both gentleness and resilience. Though tall and broad in stature, he carries a childlike purity of heart. Through his works, we not only absorb positive energy but also catch a glimpse of his deeply sensitive inner world.
We all need hope—and we must believe that hope is always there, just like the Light Deer: radiant and enduring.

鹿，自古在中國文化中便佔有獨特地位，不僅是因外觀美麗、性格柔順，海至老師則再次賦予這受寵千年的動物另一番寓意：光鹿給我的感覺就是希望，不論人生在多麼艱難的時刻，凝視光鹿，都會看見從
内心深處湧現的力量。
說來有趣，第一次與光鹿的相識是在海至老師的粉絲團，當時我一看見光鹿就很有感觸，不但第一時間分享在自己的網頁上，幾幅作品甚至被我下載在手機中反覆欣賞。
光鹿在不同的畫中忽大忽小、忽遠忽近、姿態變化萬千，唯一不變的是那道光，不論在幽暗無垠的宇宙深處，還是潺潺如詩的流水林間，光鹿象徵的就是你我心中的希望，一束光，醫術光，藝術光。
怎麼稱呼光鹿都合理，牠對現代人破碎的心靈有治癒效果，也有藝術家賦予的美感，尤其是在紛亂無依的世代，我們都不能忘記要追尋生命中的「光」。我記得上回赴台中看光鹿展，海至老師熱心替我導覽，每幅光鹿作品代表的是他不同階段的人生體悟，而這樣剛巧的是，你我也能在這些作品中，找到屬於自己的人生體悟。
海至老師是一個柔軟與堅韌並存的男子，雖然人高馬大卻保有孩子般純粹的心，從他的作品中我們不但能吸收正能量，更能一窺海至老師敏銳的内心世界。
我們都需要希望，而且要相信希望永遠存在，如同那光鹿一般明亮。
