Form Shift and Reinvention: Contemporary Art Creations 【

Sep 19 - Nov 7, 2020

Picasso once said, “Art is a lie that makes us realize truth.”
Artists Wen Jui Tsao, Shih Fei Chang, Kuo Wei Lin, and Yu Cyuan Gao draw upon experiences from contemporary life and reflect on social issues, weaving together imagery from art history, pop culture, media, subculture, and daily visual stimuli. Through borrowing from nature, applying new media, and appropriating internal thought processes, they transform and innovate both two- and three-dimensional works. Their creations recombine disparate visual elements, assigning them new vocabularies, concepts, and perspectives—reconstructing and reinterpreting the possibilities of contemporary art.

Wen Jui Tsao
Using a pop-surrealist painting style, Wen Jui Tsao’s new series Fantasy Paradise features his signature appropriation of virtual characters integrated into real-world scenes. These vibrant and dreamlike canvases serve as metaphors for life’s theatrical stage—where dreams and joy are distilled into visual symbols.

Shih Fei Chang
Through his imaginative sculptural world, Chang explores the subconscious and states of forgetfulness, presenting silent yet conflicted expressions of existential anxiety. His humorous wooden sculptures evolve from the structures of external reality, transforming psychological tension into playful absurdity.

Kuo Wei Lin
Lin merges human and animal forms to reflect on ecological issues. Through allegorical imagery, he invokes a whimsical yet symbolic lens to reimagine the state of our environment—expressing awakening and empathy toward ecological balance and the power of renewal.

Yu Cyuan Gao
Gao constructs scenic compositions based on traditional Chinese landscape painting, layered with the aesthetic of Japanese ukiyo-e filters. His works offer an immediate reflection of current societal conditions, subtly revealing the hidden desires of human nature and treading the delicate boundary between reality and illusion.

As new media art has rapidly evolved in the 21st century, these four contemporary artists embody the spirit of “moving mountains”—demonstrating perseverance, fearless exploration, and unwavering creative determination. Their practice of “transformative reinvention” bridges the barriers of time and space, merging global and local narratives into unique and resonant artistic expressions.
